EMV Chip Debit Cards Have Arrived At WKFCU
Beginning in April 2018, replacement cards for expiring debit cards and debit cards issued to new account holders will have
the EMV chip. EMV stands for Europay, MasterCard and VISA and is commonly referred to as a chip card. The chip on the front
of the card stores account information more securely and the technology itself provides reduction in card fraud resulting from
counterfeit, lost or stolen cards. The card will have a chip on the front and a magnetic strip on the back. You will either insert your
chip card into the store’s terminal or swipe the magnetic strip. To use the chip, insert your chip card into the slot on the bottomfront
of the terminal, face up and chip first. Leave the card in the terminal until the transaction is complete. The machine will tell
you when to remove your card.
If you have a debit card and your card is NOT about to expire, but you would like a chip card, you can order one for a $5 fee.
